How to Make Mom Friends: The Power of Playdates

Let’s be real—making mom friends as an adult is hard. It’s not like when we were kids and could just walk up to someone on the playground and say, “Wanna be my friend?” Now, between work, parenting, and just trying to keep up with life, forming genuine friendships can feel like another thing on the never-ending to-do list.

But here’s the thing: we weren’t meant to do this parenting thing alone. We need a village. And one of the easiest ways to build that village? Playdates.

Why Playdates Aren’t Just for Kids

Sure, playdates are a great way for kids to socialize, burn energy, and learn new skills. But let’s not forget us moms—we need that connection too.

They give us much-needed adult conversation.

They remind us that we’re not the only ones struggling.

They help create a sense of community.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve left a playdate feeling seen and heard—even if my kid spent half of it refusing to share a toy.

How to Find Your Mom Tribe

Making new mom friends can feel awkward, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some ways to start:

Attend community events – Look for local family-friendly gatherings (like open play sessions at Maeve & Rayne Play Lounge 😉).

Join parenting Facebook groups – Many local groups arrange meetups.

Be the one to reach out – If you meet a mom you click with, suggest a casual get-together.

Where to Host Playdates (Without Destroying Your House)

One of the challenges of hosting playdates at home is the extra cleanup afterward. While making memories is always worth it, sometimes it’s nice to enjoy a stress-free meet-up in a space designed for kids to play freely—without worrying about tidying up afterward. That’s why I love meeting up in kid-friendly spaces—where kids can explore, have fun, and parents can relax knowing everything is designed with families in mind.

So, if you’ve been feeling a little lonely in the mom-friend department, just remember—you’re not alone. There are other moms out there looking for connection too. Sometimes, all it takes is one playdate to turn a casual acquaintance into a lifelong friend.

Let’s build our village together. 💛

♥️ Playfully yours, your mom-friend in fun, Lynne
